Empowering Youth through Storytelling – Fluent Media’s Collaboration with Camden Learning

Camden Learning is a schools-led partnership established in 2017 between Camden schools and Camden Council.

In an effort to bridge the gap between education and industry with students and businesses across the borough, our approach involved bringing these partnerships to life on film.

We spent a week filming and photographing 16 – 18 year old students on work placements across different employer sites (such as Google, AstraZeneca, Digital Catapult and British Land) capturing authentic moments of learning and connection.

The result was a series of three flagship films and over ten short social edits that showcased the impact of collaboration between education and industry in a clear, human way.

1 X Business-Facing Clip

Objective:
To increase the number of Camden based businesses participating in future work experience programs.

Representatives from participating companies discussed the positive impact on their business as well as the local community.

1 X Student-Facing Clip

Objective:
To appeal to students in Camden schools, feature young people discussing how the program improved their soft skills (eg. confidence, teamwork & communication) and the impact of being introduced to new career opportunities.

Extended Documentary

This 8 minute edit documented the entire journey of students over the five days, highlighting the collaborative efforts between businesses and schools in Camden.

Building Back Stronger

Camden’s Education Strategy for 2030 focuses on addressing inequalities in the borough. Key objectives include:

  • Ensure every child is known, valued, and thrives
  • Support early learning as the foundation for success
  • Create opportunities for teachers to enjoy teaching and continually improve
  • Build connections to support school and area improvement, innovation, and excellence
  • Celebrate success and welcome challenges

The project highlights how impactful work experience placements can be for young people, both from a personal and career development perspective. A key objective of these films was to capture Camden’s vision for excellence and social equity in education.
