Inspiring Diversity in the Creative Sector with Ideas Foundation

Building a Diverse Future for the Creative Industry through Fluent Storytelling

Since 2000, the Ideas Foundation has been committed to increasing diversity within the creative, tech, and communications industries by offering opportunities to underrepresented young people.

To further this mission, Matt Castle was asked to produce a short film to communicate their mission: “bringing life-changing creative experiences to every young person.”

The production was directed by Simeon Quarrie.

CHALLENGE

Expanding Opportunities for Underrepresented Youth

Ideas Foundation needed a film produced to:

  • Inspire employers in the creative industry to welcome students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Raise awareness of the untapped potential of students who have innovative ideas but limited access to industry opportunities.
  • Launch a campaign titled ‘Meet The Idea Makers’ – connecting educators, schools and students to professional industries. The campaign also needed to resonate with industry leaders and policymakers.

APPROACH

High-Impact Launch Event at the Houses of Parliament

The creative approach behind this campaign was to capture stories of young people with powerful ideas and aspirations.

Filming took place at Chelsea and Westminster Colleges, as well as at Ogilvy’s HQ on Southbank, an established agency dedicated to promoting industry inclusivity.

The campaign launched at the Houses of Parliament in May 2018, where the film premiered at an event supported by the UK’s leading creative agencies attended by 100+ young people who had been through Idea Foundations programs.

RESULTS

Increased Visibility, Industry Support, and Opportunities for Young Talent

Through collaborations with some of the UK’s leading creative agencies, the Ideas Foundation secured industry backing and increased commitment to opening doors for diverse young talent.

The film and campaign provided underrepresented students with a platform to show their potential leading to tangible opportunities.

Agencies were motivated to contribute to fostering a more inclusive creative environment.
